Each plume fits all styles of shakos with a standard plume socket and includes a heavy-duty wire for secure placement. Colors shown are for reference only. Please be aware that there will be variations in color due to the nature of the dyes. Feather plumes are not colorfast and should not be worn in the rain. Custom plumes are nonreturnable.
Prepare the plume: Ensure the plume is standing upright on a flat surface.
Measure the total length:
Stand a ruler alongside the plume.
Place your finger on the top of the plume wire.
—Fountain, Carrousel, Upright, and Stick-Up style shako plumes: Measure the total length, from the tip of the wire to the bottom of the plume socket wire or Tri-wire (the part that’s inserted into the plume socket.)
—Phantom, Cavalier, Aussie, and Ostrich feather style plumes: Measure the length of the wire or stem NOT including the plume socket wire or Tri-wire.
Determining size: Plumes are sized in even increments of two inches. If the measurement is not a whole even number, round down to the nearest even inch. For example, an 8.5 inch plume would be sized as an 8 inch plume.
Please measure carefully, custom plumes cannot be modified after production. If you’re unsure about sizing, we recommend sending a sample for evaluation or requesting a comparison sample before placing your order.
All custom plumes are non-returnable or exchangeable.
Customization
All feather materials are dyed utilizing the latest technology in water-based mineral dye products. Please be aware that there will be variations in color due to the nature of the dyes as they relate to naturally occurring variations in the feathers. Band Shoppe cannot guarantee exact color matching or color fastness on any dyed feather products.
