Band Shoppe’s French Phantom Helmet Plumes feature natural feathers eatures high-quality natural feathers arranged in a tall, arched silhouette that sweeps up the front of the helmet, over the top, and down the back. Available in 13 standard colors and standard lengths 18″ and 22″, each plume includes a secure wire base and fits all standard Regimental-style helmets with plume sockets.

Make a commanding statement with Band Shoppe’s Custom French Phantom Helmet Plume. Inspired by traditional military and ceremonial dress, this plume features high-quality natural feathers set in an upturned arrangement to create a full silhouette. The arched design sweeps up the front of the helmet, over the top, and down the back, creating a dramatic curve. This plume’s bold height gives it a powerful presence, ideal for drum majors, honor guards, and corps-style performers.

Designed for use with Phantom-style helmets, each plume includes a secure attachment to maintain its shape and structure during performances. Available in 18″ and 22″ standard sizes with 13 standard colors, these custom-made plumes are dyed using advanced water and mineral-based dye technology for vivid, lasting color. Please allow up to 6 weeks for production. Want a plume with serious wow factor? French Phantom Plumes are also available in even lengths from 24″ to 30″, with options for fluorescent and dye-to-match colors. Contact our Sales Team to explore custom possibilities.

How to Measure

  1. Prepare the plume: Ensure the plume is standing upright on a flat surface.
  2. Measure the total length:
    • Stand a ruler alongside the plume.
    • Place your finger on the top of the plume wire.
    • —Fountain, Carrousel, Upright, and Stick-Up style shako plumes: Measure the total length, from the tip of the wire to the bottom of the plume socket wire or Tri-wire (the part that’s inserted into the plume socket.)
    • —Phantom, Cavalier, Aussie, and Ostrich feather style plumes: Measure the length of the wire or stem NOT including the plume socket wire or Tri-wire.
  3. Determining size: Plumes are sized in even increments of two inches. If the measurement is not a whole even number, round down to the nearest even inch. For example, an 8.5 inch plume would be sized as an 8 inch plume.

Please measure carefully, custom plumes cannot be modified after production. If you’re unsure about sizing, we recommend sending a sample for evaluation or requesting a comparison sample before placing your order.

All custom plumes are non-returnable or exchangeable.

Customization

All feather materials are dyed utilizing the latest technology in water-based mineral dye products. Please be aware that there will be variations in color due to the nature of the dyes as they relate to naturally occurring variations in the feathers. Band Shoppe cannot guarantee exact color matching or color fastness on any dyed feather products.

For dye to match colors please contact our Sales Team for minimums and manufacturing times. Custom plumes are nonreturnable.
